Data / Systems Integration
____________________________________________________________
Data
integration is the process of combining data
residing at different sources and providing
the user with a unified view of these data.
This process emerges in a variety of situations
both commercial (when two similar companies
need to merge their databases) and scientific
(combining research results from different bioinformatics
repositories).
Data integration appears with
increasing frequency as the volume and the need
to share existing data explodes. Data integration
is also used as means of system migration i.e.
moving from a certain ERP technology such as
JD Edwards to another ERP technology such as
SAP / R3 or SAP / Enterprise, this is achieved
by moving the data in the underlying ERP technology
database from one technology and format to another
technology and format.
System integration is the bringing together
of the component subsystems into one system
and ensuring that the subsystems function together
as a system. In information technology, systems
integration is the process of linking together
different computing systems and software applications
physically or functionally.
